Council AGM deferred

Redbridge Council's Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been deferred until May 2021 at the earliest.

The AGM was initially scheduled to take place in May 2020. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the council was forced to suspend all ceremonial activities over recent months.

As a council, we must continue to take a cautious approach to protect our staff, members, and, indeed, our residents. Following careful consideration, we've decided that it will not be possible for an AGM to be convened any time in the immediate future in the way that gives full acknowledgment to the prestige of the office of Mayor as First Citizen of the Borough. 

It is hoped the AGM will take place in May 2021 – and in a way that can fully recognise the contribution made by community representatives towards the Mayoral Charities. Again, this will be dependent on public health guidance that is available and relevant at that time. In the meantime, the current Mayor will continue chairing any necessary Council meetings over this period.

This approach is consistent with the relevant legislation passed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
