For safety reasons we would strongly advise you to introduce extra measures when re-opening the road by having a 10-15 minute “buffer zone” signalling the end of a play street session when you would ask people to move off the street – and the time when the stewards physically remove the barriers to allow cars in. i.e. this buffer zone will be the last 10-15 minutes before the play street session is over. Please state the time that this buffer zone will start. *

13. If you plan to close only a section of the road, where will the closure begin and end? *

14. Give a list of properties affected as well as total figure for the number of households effected. This means any property, residential or commercial, which is located on or accessed only by the road(s) you wish to close. Please specify whether this includes odd or even numbers or both. e.g. Cedar Close numbers 1-98, odd and even numbers. Total number of households: 98 *

15. Is the road to be closed used regularly by through traffic? Does it provide access to another road which has a dead end that cannot be reached in any other way? *

19. We ask that you carry out a number of mandatory steps. Please confirm you have carried out the following:

Measures to ensure that there are two stewards on any end of the roads open to traffic (e.g. a cul de sac would require two stewards)
A risk assessment is carried out (template available on play streets web page)
A consultation letter to be sent to every single household that is affected by the closure with information about how to raise any concerns.
A meeting for all families, parents and neighbours involved ideally taking place on your street, informing them about the logistics of play streets and informing them that parents and guardians are ultimately responsible for the safety of their child
A briefing session for stewards to take place before a play street takes place
The purchase of high visibility of jackets and whistles for all stewards
The distribution of letters confirming that the play streets application has been approved and will be taking place at a set time (subject to approval)
