My name is Linda Huggett and I was selected at the Annual Council meeting on Thursday 11 May 2017.
I was born in Pembroke, Wales. My mother was a nurse and my father was in the RAF and used to fly the Sunderland Flying Boats at Pembroke Dock. My parents moved back to Redbridge when I was 6 months old and they settled in South Woodford and I went to Churchfields School.
I later went to drama school and then began to study law at the Guildford College of Law where I took the first part of my solicitor’s exams. I also started my training as a lawyer with the Queen’s solicitors, Farrer & Co in Lincolns Inn Fields.
I married my husband Brian and I have two daughters: Emma and Natalie. Once they were older and at school I went back to finish my final solicitor’s exams at Guildhall University in London and became a solicitor in 1998. At the same time I was elected as a Councillor for Monkhams.
I now have a lovely grandson Oliver who is the apple of my eye. My hobbies include travelling, history, reading and going to the theatre, museums and exhibitions.
My theme for Mayor will be care in the community and I will be visiting the many groups, organisations and charities who do so much good work in Redbridge.
Mayor's charities 2017 to 2018
My first chosen charity is Haven House which has already supported over 650 families looking after children and young people from birth to 19 years. Their vision is to provide the best possible life for every baby, child and young person with a life limiting or life threatening condition and their families in our local community.
My second charity is St. Francis Hospice who is providing a new service called Hospice at Home in Redbridge which enables residents to spend their last few weeks in the comfort of their own home with the care and support they need with their loved ones at their side.
