Public Transport and Roads
The London Borough of Redbridge was formed in 1964 out of the 2
municipal Councils of Wanstead and Woodford, and Ilford. It is so
named after a "red bridge" which crossed the river Roding, and has
a population of 238,635.
The main
mode of public transport in Redbridge is centred around an
extensive bus network. The Central Line of the London
Underground serves part of the Borough with the Hainault Loop,
whilst the over ground "One" network serves the Liverpool to
Southend/ Norwich routes.
Although there are no Airports within the Borough, London City
Airport is less than 3 miles from the Borough boundary and
Stanstead Airport can be accessed via the M11, which begins at the
Redbridge Round-a-bout.
The Borough has 1 motorway , the M11, and certain priority roads
controlled by TfL, although some roads are very congested and
traffic
sensitive
Parking
There are verious controlled
parking zones within the Borough, many of which operate on a
time controlled bases.
Public Transport
The primary mode of public transport within Redbridge are
bus
routes. However, over the next 10 years Redbridge's
public transport will change dramatically, with the addition of 2
important schemes, the East London
Transit and Cross
rail.
These schemes will revitalise the connections between the
Borough and the west and south of London.
