Criteria

Parking bays for the mobility impared are primarily intended to assist disabled people who drive themselves and because of their disability need to park as close to their property as possible.  However, each application has to be considered on an individual basis taking into account the following:

  1. The applicant should be a blue badge holder.
  2. The applicant should own and be the driver of a vehicle or receive the higher rate mobility allowance in which case a bay can be considered for the partner/carer residing at the same address.
  3. There is no provision for off-street parking.
  4. The road is heavily parked making it difficult to park close to the property.
  5. The provision of a bay would not have an adverse impact on road safety or traffic conditions.

Applications on behalf of blind people would require the provision of a parking bay for the partner/carer of the applicant.  The above criteria does not cater for applications in these circumstances.  It is therefore suggested that 2. above should include applications for the partner/carer of blind people.  This proposal would have a positive impact on their care and wellbeing.

Please note: A disabled bay is not exclusively a specific residents.  Any person with a blue badge may park in it.
