Walk to School - UmbrellasEvery school in London is required to have a travel plan by 2009, and any state school that has a travel plan is entitled to a capital grant, primary schools can receive £5,000 and secondary schools £10,000.

This money can be spent on anything the school likes, so long as the work is a capital building project.

Since 2003 the Borough has secured over £210,000 in capital grants for Redbridge schools which have been spent on projects such as new pedestrian entrances, CCTV, Lighting and covered weighting areas.

The Borough runs a number of travel awareness campaigns aimed at schools such as

  •       Walk on Wednesday
  •       Walk to School Week
  •       Good Going Week

Any school that requires new/ improved cycle facilities can obtain them from Transport for London, free of charge, by undertaking a travel plan.
