The Road Safety Team are available to visit all schools in the borough and have a range of sessions to suit all age groups and abilities, from role play for reception classes and infants, where they can learn how to cross the road on a miniature zebra crossing in the safety of the school hall, to interactive quizes for sixth formers.

Our School Travel Plan co-ordinator liaises with schools over their travel plans and organises Walk to School Week, Walking Buses and Walk On Wednesday events.  She also looks after Ziggy the Zebra, our Road Safety mascot!

The Road Safety Team run various campaigns in schools throughout the year, where schools are offered leaflets for each pupil and exhibitions for the school.  These include, amongst others, Be Bright, Be Seen, which encourages children to wear or carry something fluorescent and reflective in the winter months and in the dark, to help drivers see them more easily;  Don’t Park on the Marking,s to alert parents to the dangers of stopping on the yellow zig-zag markings outside school gates and Seat Belt leaflets to ensure that parents are aware of the law regarding seat belt wearing
