FAQ for Safeguarding adults campaign | Contact for Safeguarding adults campaign

Everyone has a right to feel safe and to be treated with dignity and respect in their daily lives.

As part of an awareness raising campaign that ties in with World Elder Abuse Day on 15 June 2008, Redbridge Adult Social Services and partner organisations are working to make life safer for adults who at most at risk of being abused, neglected or exploited.  This includes people who need assistance because of a disability or illness and may be unable to take care of themselves or stop others from harming them.

Most people who need support are well cared for by families, friends, neighbours and services.  But even so some people are abused and exploited and we want to do everything we can stop this happening.  We want to support and safeguard people who are being abused and do what we can to prevent it occuring in the first place.

Abuse can happen anywhere and can include emotional, physical, financial or sexual abuse, as well as neglect and discrimination.

You can help - By being aware that such things can happen.  You can make a difference by finding out if there is anything you can do to help, and reporting concerns you may have.  All concerns, including those reported anonymously, will be taken seriously and dealt with sensitively.

There is a leaflet giving help and information about this.  You can download a copy or call 020 8708 5232.

A poster campaign is currently running at the Exchange Mall in Ilford.  Over the coming months, posters will be displayed throughout the borough and on the Council website.  Information stalls and advice will be available at the following venues, from 10am - noon:
