The objectives of Redbridge Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) are:

  • to co-ordinate local work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • to ensure effectiveness of that work. 

The functions of Redbridge LSCB are:Two children at play at nursery

  • to develop policies and procedures for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Participate in the planning of services for children in the area of the local authority 
  • to communicate the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children 
  • to develop procedures to ensure a co-ordinated response to unexpected child deaths  
  • to monitor the effectiveness of what is done to safeguard and promote the welfare of children 
  • to undertake Serious Case Reviews, evaluating effectiveness and advising on ways to improve
  • to collect and analyse information about child deaths

All of the functions of Redbridge LSCB  are designed to ensure effective local work is undertaken to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in the local area. This, in turn, contributes to the LSCB's overall outcome of ensuring the wellbeing of children especially the "staying safe" outcome as defined in the Government's Every Child Matters agenda.
