FAQ for Direct Payments | Contact for Direct Payments

Elderly Aisian LadyDirect Payments are made by the Council direct to service users, to enable them to buy their own care and support services.

Direct Payment provides an alternative to traditional services such as day care and home care and enables people with disabilities and/or support needs (including older people) to remain in their own home rather than enter residential care. It is designed to put people in control of their own care, promote their independence and give them more choice.

Direct Payments are possible if you have been assessed as eligible for a service and are one of the following:

  • a parent of a disabled child under 18
  • a disabled child or young person aged 16 or 17
  • a disabled parent of children of any age
  • a carer aged 16 or over of a disabled person aged 18 and over

There are some people who cannot receive Direct Payments. This is due to certain criminal justice and mental health legislation.

The amount that you receive will be based on an assessment of need, agreed between you and social services.
