The London Borough Redbridge has made a positive commitment to
equality and diversity by ensuring that its services meet the needs
of all of the Redbridge community.
The Equalities function seeks to ensure that the Council fulfils
the duties and responsibilities that it has under the Equalities
legislation and the Equalities Standard for Local Government.
The Council believes that by mainstreaming equalities into all
that we do we will enhance the quality of our services and help to
deliver value for money.
It is the Council's policy to work positively to:
- reduce inequality with all our customers and employees by
ensuring that they are treated equitably, fairly, without
discrimination and with dignity and respect, regardless of their:
race, gender, disability, age, sexuality, religion or irrelevant
factors.
The Council believes that:
- it is our duty to promote equal opportunity and to take
positive steps to redress inequality.
- in turn, we expect our employees and partners to respect and
comply with UK Government Legislation and Policies.
- it is necessary for organisations that intend to supply goods
or services on behalf of Redbridge Council to demonstrate that
reasonable and practicable steps have been taken to allow equal
access and treatment in employment and services for all.
The Council has also adopted the Equality Standard for Local
Government (ESLG)
This is a generic equalities standard allowing the Council
to monitor its progress over time by having five levels of
achievement which build on themselves. The Council has self
assessed to Level Three of this standard.
