A406 area flooded. The Emergency Planning Officer works with heads of council services to ensure Redbridge is capable of responding effectively to a major incident. Each service area has a role to play during an emergency, in order to maintain critical services and respond to the disaster at hand. The Redbridge Major Incident Plan (REDMIP) is  specifically written to fascilitate this process.

We further maintain a state of the art Borough Emergency Control Centre to co-ordinate our response to any major incident and we keep reviewing our plans for such an event.

This involves working closely with the Home Office and the Emergency Services and holding training and exercises for those who would be directly involved in managing an emergency situation. This includes any incident striking at the council itself.

In the event of a major incident within Redbridge, the initial call from the police or our emergency planning officer would go through to our lifeline and telecare where staff are trained to respond appropriately. Senior council managers would be alerted to attend the Borough Emergency Control Centre and to initiate preplanned procedures (REDMIP).
