We have one of the most advanced
Council CCTV schemes currently in operation in the country.
Our CCTV control room, based at the Redbridge Control Centre in
Ley Street Depot, is equipped with state of the art digital
recording and editing facilities servicing a network of cameras in
Ilford Town Centre as well as separate schemes in Gants Hill, Seven
Kings, Wanstead, Hainault Industrial Estate, Newbury Park and
Barkingside. There is also extensive camera coverage in Ley
Street and Clements Road car parks, both of which have safer
parking awards.
In total over 250 cameras are monitored by our trained staff who
provide coverage for 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year.
The CCTV system also monitors the Central and Hainault libraries
with a roll out programme in progress for all Borough Libraries to
have CCTV by end of 2007. We have the ability to
connect into the CCTV systems at Hainault school, Ilford British
Rail Station and The Exchange shopping centre. We can also
select up to three cameras and pass the images to Ilford Police
Station.
Our mobile CCTV Van has recently been upgraded with ANPR
(automatic number plate recognition) and is regularly used in joint
operations with Ilford Police.
Here are some examples of what the CCTV system/CCTV van may be
used for:
- Deter anti social behaviour
- Disrupt and prevent street crime
- Look for illegal waste dumping
- Observe unlicensed activity in entertainment premises
- Observe fraudulent behaviour
- Gather evidence for court proceedings
- Identify persons wanted by the police
- Crowd control
- Emergency planning
- Street Scene enforcement
