Green garden waste bags
Green garden waste bags
If you have green garden waste, we can come to your
property and
collect it
for you. Green waste is collected automatically by us on the
working day following your normal waste collection.
About the 'Big Green bag'
The ‘Big Green Bag’ holds up to four times as much as a normal
plastic sack, holds its shape and is robust enough to withstand
tears from twigs and thorns.
The bags will make it quicker and easier for collection crews to
empty as they save numerous trips to the vehicle, they don't need
to be untied and they don't split open.
All the improvements offered by the ‘Big Green Bag’ should make
life easier for you and our crews, resulting in a better service
than ever before.
When do we collect it from your property?
From the beginning of April to end of October, there is no
need to book for your garden waste collection, just make sure you
place your ‘Big Green Bag’ at the boundary of your property nearest
the street by 7 am the day after your normal recycling and refuse
collection. To make sure your bag gets back to you safely,
mark your house number on it and provide a stone nearby for your
empty sack to be replaced under.
How do I get a Big Green bag?
Before the scheme started, we delivered a Big Green Bag to all
suitable borough properties. We have now stopped delivering
additional or replacement Big Green Bags and residents can no
longer order them through the customer contact centre. If you
require an additional bag, they can be collected from the Sunday
Garden Waste drop off point at Fulwell Cross Car park, Sundays from
now until the end of October between 9am - 3pm.
What happens if I have too much garden waste for the big green
bag?
You may use bin liners, however please keep them untied and
outside your property in the same way as described below.
How shall I leave green waste outside my property?
Typically you should leave your green waste in the same place as
you leave your normal rubbish. Usually this is within the
boundary of your property where it is visible from the
street. So please don't leave it in the back garden or behind
your car. Please remember that its illegal to
leave waste on the road or the pavement.
Sunday waste collection
Every Sunday from May until the end of October between 9am to
3pm any additional garden waste can be taken to the following
sites:
- Fullwell Cross Car Park, Craven Gardens, Barkingside
- Wanstead Leisure Centre. Redbridge Lane West, Wanstead
- Cricklefield Sports Ground car park, High Road, Ilford
Please do not leave any garden or other waste at these
locations at any other time.
Other places to recycle green garden waste
Alternatively, you can take your green garden waste and a range
of other recyclables to the Chigwell Road
reuse and recycling centre, Woodford Bridge, IG8 8PQ from
7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm at weekends and
