Unwanted vehicles
If you have a vehicle that you no longer want we can dispose it
for you. Please note that this service is only available to
people with privately owned vehicles. If you are a business
we may be able to dispose your vehicle(s) for you, but you will
need to call us for advice.
Who is this service for
Privately owned vehicles owners.
How do I get my vehicle disposed?
You will need to contact the Customer
Contact Centre or visit our One Stop
Shop.
What do I need to provide?
They will ask you to bring in or send the following:
- Keys to the vehicle
- Log book (though additional proof maybe required)
- Vehicle disposal letter
- Location of the car
If you do not have all of the above please let us know when you
contact us.
What is a vehicle disposal letter
You will need to write a vehicle disposal letter. In this
letter you must state that you are giving us permission to dispose
the vehicle on your behalf. This letter must be signed and
dated by the person who either owns or has legal responsibility of
the vehicle.
Payment details
This is a free service that the council provides.
What happens next?
Once you have provided us with the information above we will aim
to get your vehicle disposed of within a two weeks, we don't
usually let you know when we will collect the vehicle for disposal,
but please let us know if we need special access to your
vehicle.
Once the vehicle has been removed you have to contact
the DVLA.
What does the Council do with my vehicle?
We aim to recycle vehicles. We do not sell your vehicles
or make any money from this.
