Drama festival shines light on Redbridge actors
26 July 2010
Press release number:1093
The Redbridge International Youth Theatre
Festival 2010 has kicked off with performers arriving from across
Europe.
The festival is hosted by the Redbridge Drama
Centre in South Woodford which invited young actors from the Czech
Republic, Slovenia and Lithuania to join performers in Redbridge
for a week of shows and workshops.
The festival which runs until Saturday 31 July
is part of the Redbridge Summer of Culture and will soon become a
biennial event.
As part of the festival students will take
part in daily workshops run by the Drama Centre's resident company
Vital Stages Theatre Company in which they will learn a range of
skills including melodrama and slapstick comedy. They will then
perform a series of prepared shows which are free to the
public.
After each evening performance there will be a
post-show discussion which the audience can take part in.
Redbridge Drama
Centre is a significant and unique establishment in this
country because it is the only local authority drama centre in the
UK.
It has always had a tradition of looking
beyond the Borough to discover how other countries deliver the
arts, particularly drama, to their local communities and especially
to their young people.
Sponsors of the festival include Arts Council
England.
The next Redbridge International Youth Theatre
Festival is planned to coincide with the Cultural Olympiad in the
Summer of 2012.
