Victorian Education SessionRedbridge Museum Education Service is a free service available to all Redbridge schools and youth groups. We offer 10 taught sessions which use our handling collection and museum displays on the history of Redbridge and which support the National Curriculum and cross-curricular studies.

The learning environment of the museum allows classmates to investigate dipslays for themselves and to interact with each other.

Participants are encouraged to express themselves and to consider local objects and information in context. Skills such as historical enquiry, communication and literacy, interpretation and common sense are developed.

Details regarding the Education sessions are contained in our Schools Newsletter (PDF 343Kb).

We offer Black History Month relevant taught sessions throughout the year and not just in October. We are happy to accomodate the needs of all groups and aim to facilitate visits from as many Redbridge schools and youth groups as we can. You can also arrange to bring groups and teach them yourselves, making our displays relevant to your topics.

The sessions we offer include:

  • toys old and new
  • multicultural yoys
  • romans
  • local history
  • Victorian childhood
  • Victorian washday
  • wartime childhood
  • We Were Not Alone: The Commonwealth contribution to WWII
  • numbers everywhere
  • suitcase stories

Redbridge Black History Month Video Conference

The purpose of the event is to showcase specific work in primary schools that will highlight the contributions and achievements made by the African-Caribbean community, locally and nationally. This interactive video conference is hosted by the London Borough of Redbridge, and the LGfL (London Grid for Learning), and will be live to schools across the country, as well as saved for future reference. You can join us to watch presentations from primary schools, Redbridge Museum and Black achievers, all hosted by DJ SPoony. There will be a chance for participating schools to interview each presenter, and a great opportunity to observe best practice teaching on these interesting themes.

Any school can register to watch some or all of the video conference live, just complete your details on the on-line booking form.

For more details and to see the programme visit the LGfL website.
