The Kenneth More Theatre is named after the well-loved British
actor who died in 1982 after a full career on stage, television and
in films.
He is possibly best-remembered for his appearances in the
popular British movies Genevieve (1953), Doctor in the House (1954)
for which he won a BAFTA award, and Reach for the Sky (1956) in
which he portrayed war hero Douglas Bader.
His performance in The Deep Blue Sea (1955) earned him the Best
Actor award at the Venice Film Festival. He will also be remembered
for his role as Jolyon 'Jo' Forsyte in the 1967 television version
of The Forsyte Saga. He was awarded the CBE in the 1970 New Year
Honours list.
