Gants Hill District Centre Area Action Plan

The preparation of an Area Action Plan for the Gants Hill District Centre (PDF, 8mb) has reached a significant milestone with the submission of the document to the Secretary of State on 11 July 2008.

Associated with the submission of the document is a six-week consultation process, which will run from 11 July to 22 August 2008. Find out about the consultation and how to make comments. All comments and objections received during the consultation period will be passed to the independent Government inspector for consideration as part of an independent examination process. After the Examination the Inspector will report to the Council advising on whether any changes are needed. The Council will then be able to adopt the Area Action Plan, including any changes made by the Inspector. It is anticipated that this will occur in mid-to-late 2009.

A Waste Strategy for East London

The four East London Waste Authority (ELWA) boroughs of Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge are preparing a Joint Waste DPD for East London.  The purpose of the Joint Waste DPD is to set out a planning strategy to 2020 for sustainable waste management which enables the adequate provision of waste management facilities (including disposal) in appropriate locations for municipal, commercial & industrial, construction & demolition and hazardous wastes.

You can view the Preferred Options Report for the Joint Waste DPD (PDF, 652kb) and its related documents including the Sustainability Appraisal on Newham's website using the links provided. These documents are also available for public inspection at the Council's One Stop Shop and all Borough libraries.

A six week consultation was undertaken during April and May 2007. A summary of responses can be found here in due course.

A finalised document will then be prepared for submission to the Secretary of State. This is expected to occur in March 2009.  At that stage the document will be published for a further six weeks providing an opportunity to comment on the report.  Comments will be passed on to the planning inspector appointed to conduct a public inquiry into the submission document.  Following publication of the Inspector's binding report, it is anticipated that the Join Waste DPD will be formally adopted by the Council in June 2010.
