Phone Masts in Redbridge
- Increased demand for mobile phones over the last decade has
meant changes to the telecommunications network that supports their
use.
- Telecom or phone masts and antennas are needed to provide a
network of sufficient geographical coverage and quality
reception.
- The benefits of such a network are clear for modern life and
not least for the ability to call the emergency services if ever
the occasion should occur.
- However, there are concerns associated with the impact on the
environment and public health, which is
where planning policy has an important
role to play.
Telecoms Register
The telecoms
register lists all of the telecom base stations in the Borough.
This register provides information on the type of development, its
location, the type of application and the date of decision. It is
updated annually. Furthermore, the Office of Communications (Ofcom)
provides useful information on the location of telecom base
stations throughout the country.
Telecoms Rollout Plan 2007-08
The Telecoms
Rollout Plan 2007-08 is a strategic document that sets out
areas in which the telecom operators are seeking to increase their
network coverage. The sites suggested are generally indicative, but
provide the operators with an early indication of suitability. The
feedback made by the Council does not prejudice it when assessing
telecom applications in the future, i.e. if the Council suggests
that a particular site may be suitable, it does not mean that the
Council has to approve an application for that site, should one be
made. As such the Rollout Plan allows the opportunity for open and
informative discussion to be made.
The Council has compiled a series of maps that display where the
location of the proposed sites in the Telecoms Rollout Plan. There
are maps for:
Consultation
- As part of the Rollout Plan, the Council will submit feedback
to the operators on the suitability of each of the proposed
sites.
- To help Planning & Regeneration Services, the
opinions of residents and councillors are sought through a period
of consultation.
- As part of this consultation process, the 2007-08 Rollout Plan
will be presented to each of the Area Committees and the
Conservation Advisory Panel. Please make any comments via a local
Area Committee, local councillor or direct to the Council (see
contacts).
- The absolute latest that comments can be made for the 2007-08
Rollout Plan is 31 January 2008.
- The previous Rollout Plan for 2006-07 can be found here and
includes feedback for telecom operators.
