Trees help to make Redbridge a pleasant and attractive place to
live and work. They improve the natural environment and reduce air
and noise pollution. They enhance the visual and natural quality of
our area. We are committed to maintaining, protecting and
encouraging new planting of trees within our Borough.
Frequently
Asked Questions about Tree Protection
Work involving a tree includes the felling or cutting of any
part of the tree including the roots. The types of protection
include the following:-
- Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) -
consent must be obtained before any work is undertaken on a tree
with a TPO
- Development sites - we ensure
new proposals respect existing trees, include good landscaping
schemes and maintain them thereafter
- Conservation Areas - we must be
notified in advance of any work on trees within a Conservation
Area
- Tree planting schemes - we will
contribute 50% to the cost of supplying and planting trees in our
'£ for £' tree planting scheme.
We seek to minimise tree loss and to replace trees that are
felled. We encourage new tree planting and promote good standards
of care and woodland management.
A fine of up to £20,000 can be imposed if unauthorised work is
undertaken on a tree with a TPO. Always contact us to determine the
status of a tree before any work is considered.
