What is a Locally Listed building?

Some buildings not of national importance, but of local architectural or historic interest, make a contribution to the character of the Borough.  The Council maintains a List of these buildings and seeks to preserve them.

Locally Listed buildings in Redbridge

There are over 100 entries and 200 individual buildings on the register of Locally Listed Buildings in Redbridge. A copy of the register is available for inspection at the Town Hall offices of the Planning Service. We value these buildings in all their diversity and wish to see them maintained.

What are the implications of Local Listing?

The Council has no additional legal powers to protect Locallly Listed Buildings but has adopted a policy (E3) for their preservation within its Local Development Framework. If a planning application is made for a Locally Listed Building the Council will take account of the impact of the proposals upon the special architectural or historic interest for which the building was locally listed.
