FAQ for Building Control | Contact for Building Control

rule and spirit level

The main purpose of Building Control is to ensure that all building work complies with the Building Regulations and other related legislation. This is done by checking plans of proposed work and also by inspecting the work on site.

The services provided by the Council are:

  • A published level of service which helps you, as the customer, get the best possible development, both in terms of quality, cost and speed (of response)
  • Local knowledge and historical records that help you avoid the hidden problems on your building project - no matter how large or small
  • 'Type approval' schemes mean one plan check and the same design can be used anywhere in England and Wales. Updating and amendments are accommodated
  • Free advice on how to comply with the Building Regulations and the range of other approvals that might be necessary
  • An independent service where you can be assured of total confidentiality
  • Technical expertise on a full range of building types and schemes
  •  We believe construction work should reflect the long-term nature of buildings. Make sure you avoid long term defects by using our services

If you are interested in making an application for planning permission please visit our planning development pages.

We also deal with street naming and numbering. If you are building new properties and converting existing properties you will need to get in contact with us to get a postal address and post code.
