FAQ for Health and Safety | Contact for Health and Safety

The Council’s Health and Safety team ensures that workplaces are safe and that employees and people affected by work activities are not exposed to health and safety risks. Some of our activities include:

  • carrying out workplace inspections
  • offering advice on health and safety to employers, employees and the public
  • investigating reported accidents and complaints about health and safety
  • investigating complaints about unsafe premises or practices
  • carrying out project work on specific business activities or common work practices
  • working in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive, other local authorities and businesses on specific projects

While the Council is responsible for the enforcement for health and safety at work legislation at most private sector workplaces in the borough, the Health and Safety Executive deals with Council premises, hospitals, construction and demolition sites, schools and factories.
