Section 91(2) of the Animal Health Act 1981 requires local authorities to publish information about Declarations of Bluetongue Protection Zones (PT) and Bluetongue Surveillance Zones (SZ) made under the Act.

As from 14.05 on Wednesday 13th February the Bluetongue Protection Zone covering parts of South East England was extended to include the whole of the London Borough of Redbridge area. Restrictions on the movement of some types of livestock therefore now apply in the Redbridge area.

There are no restrictions on the movement of pigs, as they are not susceptible to the Bluetongue virus. In most cases it is only sheep that are clinically affected by the disease, however movement restrictions apply to all ruminants (for example sheep, cattle, goats and deer). Bluetongue does not affect humans or domestic animals.

Comprehensive information on Bluetongue and how these movement restrictions may affect you can be found on the Defra website.
