Shanks East London is contracted to Redbridge Council for the reprocessing of our recycling. Please contact them if you require any further information about the different usage of recyclates.

Recycle Garden waste

Green garden waste

Garden waste is sent for large-scale windrow composting at either of two nearby locations.

The compost is then used in landscaping projects.

Recycle mixed glass

Glass bottles and jars

Colour separated glass is sent to a glass manufacturer in the north of England and reprocessed into glass bottles and jars.

Any mixed coloured glass is sent to Portugal for use in the bottle-making industry.

Recycle mixed paper

Mixed papers

Paper is baled up and taken to a newspaper recycling mill in Kent which processes the paper and turns it into newsprint.

Recycle plastic bottles

Plastic bottles

Baled and transported to a plastics recovery company where it is sorted into different colours and types and melted into raw materials for the plastics industry.

Recycle steel and aluminium

Steel and aluminium cans and tins

Steel cans are baled and transported to a major British steel-manufacturing company for reprocessing into steel products.

Aluminium cans are taken to a reprocessor where they are made into new cans or other products.

textiles and clothes

Shoes, clothes and textiles

Good quality shoes and textiles are exported to developing countries where they are distributed to local communities at a very low cost.

Textiles that are unsuitable for reuse are shredded to make wiping rags, felt or packaging materials.
