The Redbridge Music Service provides instrumental teaching and music support in schools throughout the Borough.

  • Each year our staff provide over 27,000 hours of instrumental lessons in Redbridge schools
  • Schools decide how many hours of instrumental teaching they wish to buy from the Music Service
  • Pupils are taught individually or in small groups
  • Instruments can be hired or purchased from our Instrument Centre
  • Our staff conduct and support ensembles within schools
  • Schemes of work include an extensive range of specially designed instrumental tutors
  • Annual Instrumental Festivals provide performing opportunities for hundreds of young musicians
  • Service to both primary and secondary schools provides continuity as pupils change schools

Redbridge Schools' Choral Festival

  • A Biennial Redbridge Schools' Choral Festival is held at the Royal Albert Hall
  • The Festival is self-funding and donations are made to a nominated charity
  • Over 1900 children from schools throughout Redbridge take part
  • Since the first Festival in 1976 over 30,400 young people from Redbridge have been given the chance to sing at the Royal Albert Hall

Redbridge Gamelan

  • The Redbridge Gamelan is based at the John Savage Centre and is visited by pupils from schools throughout the area
  • Anyone is able to play in a Gamelan Orchestra
  • No knowledge of "western" notation is needed
  • The cultural and religious backgrounds are as important as playing the Gamelan

Redbridge Instrument Centre

  • The Redbridge Instrument Centre prepares and repairs thousands of instruments each year.  Highly skilled technicians are based at the Centre and it has a vast stock of instruments for hire or purchase for Music Service Pupils
  • Advanced pupils are able to purchase specialist instruments

Recitals And Concerts

  • Music Service Recital Groups visit Redbridge schools weekly, presenting structured, informative performances and demonstrations

Redbridge Music Service Resources And Curriculum Support

  • Redbridge Music Service has a vast range of resource material supporting the needs of music in schools
  • There is an extensive library of instrumental music covering many ages, groups and abilities
  • Support staff visit schools and give regular courses to assist both specialist and non specialist staff

Redbridge Music School

  • An extensive structured programme of out of school musical activities
  • More than 20 ensembles - clubs, bands, choirs, orchestras
  • Musical opportunities at different levels to suit and extend the ability of the individual
