Redbridge Drama Centre exists to provide high quality
curriculum, technical and practical drama, theatre and media
support to all Redbridge schools. It also acts as a centre of
excellence for the creation and performance of theatre with and for
young people.
The Drama Centre runs the two Redbridge Youth Theatre Workshops,
Redbridge Adult Theatre Workshop and Children's Theatre Workshop
for all ages. All these groups create presentations and
performances. In addition the Drama Centre provides a
community theatre programme, artists in schools projects, in
service training for teachers and a comprehensive hire and sales
service. Many of our services are available for schools and
organisations outside Redbridge.
Theatre and Drama have the power to challenge and change
attitudes and to help us understand ourselves and the world in
which we live. Drama is a practical art that you cannot
do on your own. It provides a channel for self expression and
creative energy. It develops that most precious resource -
our imagination - and provides opportunities to fulfil personal
potential and to develop self image, self esteem, confidence and
motivation to learn.
20,000 Redbridge school pupils experience some form of drama
support every year with the ensuing impact on pupils
achievements.
250 young people attend theatre workshops at the centre every
week during the evenings and at weekends - there are no
auditions.
The Drama Centre is based in specially adapted premises in
Churchfields, South Woodford. It comprises a theatre/hall, a
studio, a video/TV studio, sound and video recording and editing
facilities, and a wide range of technical resources available for
hire. Lottery funding provided a two story extension which
has enhanced facilities with a dance/drama studio, a workshop, a
control room for the Theatre, and toilets.
As we look to the future the Redbridge Drama Centre aims to:
- maintain a profile for drama and the arts in Redbridge
schools
- develop the Drama Centre as a valued community resource and
theatre venue
- use theatre to challenge perceptions
- provide best value
