School information

Winston Way Primary School, Ilford, opened in September 2007. The school is three forms of entry and will have a total number of 630 pupils plus nursery. This 'urban' designed school, developed specifically for the town centre location, includes a Children's Centre and opened with the reception year group and the nursery.

The school includes 'state of the art' accommodation with modern teaching and support facilities, integrated IT and internet connection with the potential for video teaching/conferencing with other schools - even worldwide. It also has purpose designed play areas for play, sports and quiet reflection - incorporating an upper floor play deck and a Children's Centre/nursery with parent, health and training facilities for the community.

This is an extended school - available to the community for use in the evenings and at weekends.

The site has limited parking and access for cars, but the school, in consultation with parents and local safety agencies, will implement a school travel plan for safe travel and protected access to the site. This will include:

  • the possibility of "walking buses" and safe pedestrian routes from the north and south of Winston Way
  • good visibility CCTV surveillance
  • security personnel to the open spaces around the school and the central meetings area
  • a parent contract and parent "buy-in" for all security measures
