About our school

The School Council would like to welcome you to the web page for William Torbitt Primary School.

William Torbitt is on the Eastern Avenue, in the Borough of Redbridge. It is a three form entry school. The ages we take are from three to eleven years old (from Nursery until year six). In the school we have over 650 children. There are over 100 staff that work in our school. There are very talented people that have achieved lots of things at this school.

The majority of lessons take place in the children's classrooms, but there are many times when the outdoor environment is used such as for PE and art. Year 5 have the opportunity to go swimming and Year 6 undertake sailing lessons at Fairlop Waters.

In William Torbitt school we have many different facilities:

We are lucky enough to have 2 halls in our school that are used for plays, assemblies and talks, as well as PE and different activities.

The ICT room stores most of our computers. Every class has an hour of ICT once a week in our modern ICT suite. In all we have about 30 computers in the ICT room; we also have at least 1 computer in each classroom. The school has recently installed whiteboards in Years 2, 3, 5 and 6. They have had a big impact on pupils' enjoyment of lessons and most children find them very interesting and easier to read.

The school has a fantastic library loaded with books and even has a part-time librarian. From Year 3 onwards children go to the library to borrow one fiction and one non-fiction book.

The school has one of the biggest fields of any primary school in Redbridge. We have two large playgrounds, wooden play areas, an adventure playground and a sensory garden. The school also has an orchard and a vegetable patch and a wildlife garden and pond. The school has two car parks, although parking is limited. The school has extensive gardens at the front of the building and our school gardener maintains these.

The school has a separate dinner hut where children go to eat their packed lunch or their delicious and healthy school dinners.

The school is fully accessible for disabled people via a ramp, stair lifts and a lift. It has a brand new reception area and the head teacher and deputy head teacher have also had new offices built. The school has its own separate medical room where sick children may go.

There are lots of after school and lunchtime clubs at William Torbitt Primary school: netball, football, chess, tag rugby, ICT and art club. Some clubs are run by teachers and some by year 6 pupils. Your child is welcome to join one of our clubs.

At William Torbitt School we have the amazing opportunity to go on school trips.
