About our school
St Aidan's is a Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School which
caters for pupils who are baptised Roman Catholics whose parents
reside in the parishes of St Cedd (Goodmayes), St Teresa (Newbury
Park) and that part of SS Peter and Paul's which lies to the north
of the High Road (Ilford).
Mission Statement
Together, we enjoy learning, achieving, sharing and praying.
Let Jesus' love shine through in everything we do.
St Aidan's is primarily an educational establishment where the
inspiration and challenge for all we attempt to do is based on our
gospel values; the belief that God is at the heart of our
enterprise; that all human beings are uniquely created and loved by
God and worthy of respect.
Our Facilities
Although the main building was built in 1928, it did not open as
a Catholic primary school until 1965. Since that date, additional
classrooms have been built so that today there are 14 classrooms
and a hall. A self-contained Nursery has also been built on the
site and we also have additional facilities for group and
specialist teaching.
In 2005 the Lindisfarne Building was completed, incorporating
the new hall, three classrooms, a library, changing rooms, music
practice room and the Iona Room for PSHE. This building
incorporates many eco-friendly and sustainable features such as
solar panels, sedum roof, triple glazing, sophisticated lighting
controls, high insulation, rainwater collection and recycled
materials.
The Causeway Building was refurbished in 2006 and provides
conference and kitchen facilities for the school community and is
also a meeting place for parents and our Family Learning
programmes.
Aims
At St Aidan's, we aim to create and sustain a stimulating
environment where everybody involved - children, staff, parents and
others - may grow in faith and in their love of God, developing
respect for themselves and an awareness off the needs and gifts of
others.
We promote an environment where children will be happy,
independent and will be able to achieve their full potential -
spiritually, academically, morally, emotionally, socially and
physically.
We aim to provide children with the experiences, knowledge and
skills to function effectively at school and beyond. We celebrate
and share successes and achievements, both individually and
collectively within a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Partnership between Home, School and Parish
We believe parents are the first educators of their children and
we value the opportunity to work with them. The school undertakes
to work to complement the Home and Parish environment by setting
before the children the ideal of Christian life.
Learning at St Aidan's
As at Catholic school we believe all learning is based in gospel
values and base our Religious Education on the national scheme
'Here I Am'. We try to maintain a broad and balanced curriculum
while giving priority to teaching of the core subjects of the
National Curriculum - English, Mathematics, Science, Information
and Technology and Religious Education.
We believe all pupils should have a chance to achieve their full
potential and many year groups have an enriched curriculum during
the school day and beyond with specialist teaching in sport, music,
art, drama, Spanish and needlework.
