About the school

Oakdale Junior School is a warm, welcoming 3 form entry school tucked away in a corner of South Woodford.  It has 12 classes of 30 children aged 7 - 11 years.

The school is very well resourced.  It has its own on-line computer suite, a small heated swimming pool, a large playing field and multi-purpose hall with staging and lighting, including an up-to-date sound system.  Additionally there is a modern food technology area.

The heart of the school is its Learning and Teaching Policy.  We believe that intended learning should be made explicit to pupils and parents alike.  We focus on children learning how to learn; developing an awareness of their own learning needs and how to address them.  We acknowledge the differing learning styles that pupils have and the multiple intelligence they possess.  In planning and delivering our curriculum these are uppermost in our minds.  We strive to provide a creative and imaginative learning environment that has a high level of challenge in a supportive and collaborative atmosphere, thus encouraging high levels of achievement.

We are committed to maintaining and developing a broad curriculum that will allow all pupils to demonstrate their skills and abilities.  We ensure that children's entitlement to a broad Arts and Physical Education programme is delivered.  We believe that the school should utilise the specialist knowledge of artists and sports persons to provide exemplars of high levels of individual expertise. We have been awarded the Arts Mark Gold award in recognition of our work with the Arts.

The school is multi-cultural and has a firm emphasis on equal opportunity.  It is based on collaboratively developed principles of Rights and Responsibilities with the rules that underpin them.  These are continuously reviewed.

The school is committed to developing an open dialogue with parents and carers and has an open door policy as well as formal Parents Evenings.

There is an active 'Friends of Oakdale Association' which acts as a social event and fund raising catalyst and has provided extremely valuable additional resources for the school.

Oakdale Junior is a high achieving school.
