About the School

Gordon Infants' School is a small friendly school housed in a modern bungalow building with a two form entry infant department and a purpose-built nursery unit.  The school is set in pleasant grounds within a few minutes walk of South Park.

We have six infant classes grouped horizontally into Year 2, Year 1 and Reception units.  The two Reception classes are incorporated into an Early Years Unit with the nursery which allows them to function as one unit in terms of overall planning and ethos.

The school serves a multi-ethnic community and we welcome the rich diversity of language, religion and culture that this brings to our school.  Our parents are supportive and friendly and, we feel, generally appreciative of the school.

We are concerned that our children feel a sense of belonging to the school, that they are valued, secure and achieving.  We recognise that achievement can take many forms and occur at each stage of development and that each stage of development is valuable in itself and not only a preparation for the next.

We believe the development of play to be a vital cornerstone in the learning of young children and we would wish this development to be nurtured in an exciting, imaginative way appropriate to differing stages of development and abilities.

At all times the staff strive to allow the children maximum opportunity for developing their play.  This calls for a high level of planning, teamwork, communication and a knowledge and understanding of young children's development.

As children progress through the school we endeavour to maintain this development as we embrace the National Curriculum and all other learning experiences.  We aim to help children acquire knowledge, attitudes and skills relevant to themselves and to adult life in a fast changing world and recognise and value the achievements and rights of themselves and others, both child and adult, within the school and the wider community.
