More Reading Groups in the Borough

Aldersbrook Library Book Club

Meet every month on a Thursday evening at 8 pm. Contact Gill James at Aldersbrook Library. This is a very informal group and you can just turn up on the night. Each meeting has a different topic so you can choose the ones that interest you. The titles or authors on their reading list are all available on the Book Club Selection Shelf in the library during the month before the meeting.

Gants Hill Library Reading Group

Meets every six weeks on a Monday at 10.30 am. Contact Evelyn Reid at Gants Hill Library for more details.

Goodmayes Library Reading Group

Meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7 pm. Contact Rhonda Brooks or Lesley Gould at Goodmayes Library. Call in to any meeting for an informal discussion about what the members have been reading recently. Bring along a book which you would like to recommend.

Hainault Library Book Groups

  • Bookaholics Meet monthly on Tuesdays from 6.30 pm - 8 pm. Bookaholics is a friendly group with a current membership of about 10. They meet to discuss their book of the month over a cup of tea or coffee. Contact Lynn Walker at  Hainault Library.

  • All at Sea Meet monthly, usually on Thursdays at 8 pm, at members' homes. This is a specialist group of 6-8, with a shared interest in maritime literature. No crew vacancies at present. Contact Nick Dobson at Central Library.

  • Book Worms Meet Monthly on Tuesdays from 6.30 pm - 7.30 pm. This group is all women at the moment. They have around 8 members, and enjoy a chat about their latest book read over a coffee. Contact Lynn Walker at Hainault Library.

  • Book Now This small group meet up in members' homes. They enjoy classics and non-fiction. For more information contact Lynn Walker at Hainault Library.

Keith Axon Centre

Meets once a month on Wednesdays at 7.45pm.  Contact Donna Howells or Val Harris at Keith Axon Centre

South Woodford Library Reading Group

  • Daytime Group Meets in the Children's Library on the first Friday of the month at 10.30 am. Contact Andrew Lilley at South Woodford Library.
  • Evening Group Meets in the Children's Library on the last Tuesday of the month at 6.30 pm. Contact Andrew at South Woodford Library. Set up by the 'Friends of South Woodford Library', this group chooses a title to read for discussion at the next meeting. Details of the book and the date for the next meeting are displayed on the Friends' notice board at South Woodford Library.

Wanstead Library Reading Group

  • Daytime Group Meets once a month on Mondays at 10am.  Contact Jon Woolf at Wanstead Library.

  • Evening Group Meets once a month on a Thursday at 6.30pm in the library.  Contact Jon Woolf at Wanstead Library.

 

Woodford Green Library Reading Groups

The reading groups choose the books they want to read at each meeting, which are supplied by the library. The groups are informal and discussion is lively. You can just turn up on the day or contact the library.

  • Afternoon Reading Group Meets in the library from 2.30 pm - 4 pm monthly on a Tuesday. Contact Jean Goodfellow at Woodford Green Library.
  • The Evening Reading Group Meets in the library from 6.30 pm - 7.55 pm monthly on a Monday. Contact Jean Goodfellow at Woodford Green Library.
  • The University of the Third Age Run reading groups in Barkingside and Woodford Green which are supported by the Libraries Service. Contact Woodford Green Library for more information.

Staff reading group

This group is for members of Redbridge Council staff and meets on the first Monday of the month from 5.30 pm - 6.30 pm. Our preference is for contemporary literary fiction but sometimes we surprise ourselves! If you work for the London Borough of Redbridge and are interested in joining, please contact Rosamund Willis-Fear.
