Aims
- To provide information for local people
- To provide information free of charge
- To ensure information is current
- To ensure notice boards are attractive
- To give local staff clear guidelines for decision making
Order of Priority
Within the space available the following order of priority will
apply:
- Statutory notices (e.g. electoral register notices, library
regulations and bye-laws)
- Redbridge Libraries notices and Redbridge Arts Council notices
submitted through the Arts Council Office
- Other Redbridge Council notices (e.g. Refuse Collection
notices)
- Government departmental notices (with a deadline)
- Information concerning the library's local community
- Notices from room hirers at the library concerned
- Cultural events in Redbridge (with a deadline)
- Other events in Redbridge (with a deadline)
- Other Redbridge organisations and activities (without a
deadline)
- Events and activities from outside Redbridge (priority for
those nearest)
The following will not be accepted for public display:
- Untidy or scruffy notices
- Advertisements (e.g. "For Sale" or "Wanted" services)
On occasions, even within these guidelines, it might be more
appropriate to provide the information for the public other than by
displaying posters and leaflets. Library staff will refer any items
where this might be considered appropriate to the Borough Librarian
who will decide, in consultation with the Chairman, Vice Chairman
and the Spokesmen as necessary.
Such instances might include sensitive local issues and
offensive wording or illustrations.
Period of Display
Only the Library Regulations will be displayed permanently. The
Section Heads will decide on the length of time, dependent upon
space available. Three weeks is the suggested maximum, with the
"display until" date in the bottom right hand corner. Customers
handing in posters will be advised that display cannot be
guaranteed.
The information from any posters or leaflets not displayed will
be kept on file as local information.
