The Redbridge Library Service works towards a
number of targets in delivering its services to customers and the
wider community. Some of these are set within Redbridge
Council, others by national bodies like the Department for Culture,
Media and Sport and the Museums, Libraries and Archives
Council.
In 2006-07, Redbridge Libraries met 4 out of
10 Public Library Service Standards. However in 2007-08 we
have improved our performance in some key areas. The new Clayhall
Library means that 97% of the population now live within a mile of
a static library, an increase of 4%.
We also achieved the target for buying new
books and other materials - this year over 55,000 new items were
purchased. These achievements mean we will now meet 5 of the
service standards and make progress against two others.
Redbridge Libraries remain very popular with
residents -73% of respondents in a recent MORI survey were
satisfied with the library service. In 2006-07, Redbridge Libraries
had 1,849,276 visitors, more than neighbouring Waltham Forest
(1,388,800) and Barking and Dagenham (957,082).
Financial statistics show that the Redbridge
Library service also keeps spending low relative to other London
boroughs, ranking 26 out of 32 boroughs in levels of revenue
expenditure per 1,000 population.
