Bookstart is a nationwide programme that distributes books to young children free of charge with the aim of promoting a lifelong love of books. There are now three packs available for different ages:

At 6 months: A canvas shoulder bag containing two board books, a book of children's poetry, information leaflets for parents and carers.

At 18 months: A satchel containing two books, colouring pad and pack of crayons, stickers and more information focusing on early language and listening skills.

At 3 years: A Treasure Chest containing two books, a colouring pad, pencils and sharpener, stickers and information on how to access further reading materials.

These packs are to be given out free of charge to every child in the UK. They can be collected from nurseries and children's playgroups, or through health visitors. If your child has not received their pack then please contact your local branch for more information.

Bookcrawl

Bookcrawl is an ongoing programme for the under fives run in libraries nationwide. The aim is to get young children visiting their library regularly. Upon joining the child is given a Joiner's Card, and they will receive a stamp and a sticker every time they visit the library. Once five visits have been completed the child will receive a certificate. There are five different certificates to collect.
