As a result of the
London Government re-organisation in 1964 the Borough of Ilford was
merged with the Borough of Wanstead and Woodford and became the
London Borough of Redbridge.
The name comes from a red brick bridge that crossed the River
Roding, built in 1650. The London Borough of Redbridge Crest
therefore incorporates parts of each of the original Boroughs.
The motto 'In Unity Progress' alludes to the amalgamation of the
two Boroughs into the new London Borough of Redbridge.
