Who is the Mayor?

The current Mayor is Councillor Mrs Loraine Sladden, who was elected on the 8 May 2008.

The Mayor is the First Citizen of the Borough and has a very important specific role to play for the Authority during their term of office, which Mayor Councillor Loraine Sladdenruns for a year commencing with the Annual meeting of the Council each May.

What does the Mayor do?

The office of the Mayor is apolitical and the person represents the Council at civic and ceremonial events both in and outside the Borough. The Mayor also Chairs all Council Meetings. The Mayor is likely to attend over 500 engagements each year including:

  • Opening fairs / fetes
  • Visiting schools, day centres and hospitals
  • Receiving delegations from around the world
  • Acting as guest speaker at dinners / receptions for all kinds of local groups and organisations
  • Welcoming new businesses to the borough
  • Attending concerts and engagements involving local drama group
