This pattern is similar to that for England and Wales in general.

In London as a whole, the majority of people have attained the highest level of qualification of a first degree, an NVQ level 4/5, HND, HNC or are a qualified teacher, doctor, dentist, nurse, midwife or health visitor. Those with no qualifications make up the second largest group.

Within Redbridge there were 5,414 full-time students aged 16 to 17 on Census day 2001 and 9,697 full-time students aged 18 to 74. This equates to 3.2% of the 16-74 year old population being a full time student aged 16 or 17 and 5.7% aged 18 to 74.

The percentage of 16 and 17 year olds in full-time education was higher than the England and Wales average of 2.7%

There is a greater concentration of full-time students aged 18 to 74 in inner London (8.3%). 5.1% of the population of outer London and 4.4% of the population of England and Wales are full-time students aged 18 to 74.

29.7% (2,873) of full-time students aged 18 to 74 in Redbridge were in employment. This is similar to the London average of 29.9% and lower than the England and Wales average of 33.1%. 63.8% of adult full-time students in Redbridge were not in employment and 6.5% were unemployed (i.e. were available to work, seeking work or waiting to start a new job).
