Redbridge's Population

We have a diverse population of 238,635 people (the mid-2007 population estimate Walkers at Hainault Forestwas 254,400) with 37% defining themselves as a minority ethnic person. The borough has a wide variety of religions with about half of people describing themselves as Christian, 50.7%. The 2001 Census identified 94,174 dwellings, which are mainly houses or bungalows. Redbridge's Environment

Known as the "leafy" suburb, the borough enjoys one of the best living environments in London. About a third of it lies within

designated green belt land and there are 13 conservation areas. We have 1,200 acres of forest and 600 acres of green spaces and parks. We are also well placed for touring the south-east of England, in particular the picturesque villages of Essex.

Transportation

We have excellent rail, underground and road links to the centre of London, which is just seven miles away, and Docklands, and are also within easy reach of both London City Airport and Stansted Airport.

The Dartford Crossing to the south allows easy road access to Kent and the Channel ports. We are very close to Stratford, the 2012 Olympics site, where a new international station will provide a direct rail link to the Channel Tunnel.

Ilford Town Centre

Ilford is well positioned to become a major centre of the Thames Gateway, with new retail outlets and improvements to the Exchange Mall Shopping Centre.
