The Freedom of
Information Act 2000 gives people the right to request
information held by public authorities. This Right to
Know allows you to access a range of recorded information
held by the Council, such as reports, minutes of meetings,
research or emails. Information will also be available on this
website and through our Publication Scheme.
Freedom of Information gives you two related rights:
- the right to be told if information exists
- the right to receive information (and where possible, in the
manner requested) subject to certain
exemptions
However there are some exemptions under the Act, or other
relevant legislation, which may mean we cannot always provide
requested information.
In addition to the provisions of this Act, you are already
entitled under the Data Protection Act 1998 to request a copy of
any personal data that we may hold about you. Stringent
precautions govern how we can use this data, in particular
protecting you against it being made available to others
inappropriately.
