FAQ for Disabled reduction | Contact for Disabled reduction

You may be entitled to a reduced Council Tax bill if you, or someone who lives with you needs

  • a room or,
  • an extra bathroom or kitchen or,
  • extra space to meet special needs arising from a disability

To ensure disabled people do not pay more tax on account of space needed because of a disability, the bill may be reduced to the band immediately below the band shown on the valuation list.

If your home is in Band A in the valuation list the amount due is calculated as five ninths of the amount of a Band D property (instead of 6 ninths). This has the effect of reducing the charge to a lower band.

If your home has any special fixtures added for a disabled resident's benefit which reduces its value and you do not think they have been taken into account in the valuation band assigned to your property contact the Listing Officer at the Valuation Office.

If you think you are entitled to a reduction and it is not already shown on your bill, please contact the Council Tax Office.
