The Equality Act 2006 amends the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 to
place a statutory duty on all pubic authorities to:
- Promote equality between women and men
- Eliminate unlawful sex discrimination and
harassment.
This is known as the Gender Equality Duty or (general duty)
which comes into force on 06 April 2007.
It is the biggest change in sex equality legislation in
thirty-years since the introduction of the Sex Discrimination
Act.
The duty applies to both men and women.
