Housing and Community Services is responsible for carrying out
Equality Impact Assessments for the following services areas:
- Community Care
- Culture, Sport and Community Learning
- Housing Services
- Learning Disability Partnership
- Payments and Benefits
The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 outlines a duty for
public authorities to conduct Equality Impact Assessments
(
EIA
s).
Similar assessments are also requirements of the Equality Standard
for Local Government.
In summary, implementing EIAs enables the Authority
to:
- Determine which policies and functions are relevant to the
general duties they have under the Race Relations (Amendment)
Act
- Meet the requirements of the Redbridge Equality Standard
- Examine the impact of service delivery and planning
arrangements in terms of race, gender, age, sexuality and
faith
- Identify changes required to reduce any instances of unlawful
discrimination through consultation with service users, staff and
stakeholders.
