The Equalities Scheme
The Equalities Scheme sets out how the Council will meet its
legal duties and commitments for:
- Race
- Disability
- Gender
- Religious Belief
- Sexual Orientation
- Age
The purpose of the Equalities Scheme is to set out how the
Council will:
- decide which of its functions and policies are
relevant to its general duties
- consult with the general public
- deal with complaints about the way that it is
meeting its duties, or other complaints about equalities
- publish the results of its assessments,
consultations and monitoring
- make sure that everyone has access to
information about the authority and its services
- make sure that members and employees understand
their duties
- make the workforce more representative
- review the scheme and how often.
The Equalities Scheme was published in 2006 and will be reviewed

The Services offered by the Council are grouped into Clusters;
each Cluster has developed its own Equality and Diversity Strategy
and Action Plan to ensure that the Equalities Scheme is
delivered.
