Sale of age restricted products

FAQ for Sale of age restricted products | Contact for Sale of age restricted products

Certain products may not be sold to young persons who have not reached a specified age.  Retailers have a responsibility to ensure that they and their staff do not sell restricted products to underage persons.

It is an offence to supply any of these products to persons who have not attained the specified age.  If you are found guilty of an offence then you can be fined up to £5000 or receive a 6 month prison sentence or both.

Retailers are advised to implement procedures so that they can show they are exercising due diligence. The Council offers advice on due diligence for retailers on what steps to take, promotes various support schemes for traders and is working in partnership with Citizencard to provide young persons in the Borough with a means of proving their age.

Below is a table of minimum age limits for sale of restricted products.
