FAQ for Citizencard scheme | Contact for Citizencard scheme

The London Borough of Redbridge is working in partnership with Citizencard to provide young persons in the Borough with a means of proving their age.

In addition to having to prove your age before purchasing restricted products, certain establishments may restrict entry based on your age.  These will include cinemas, pubs, nightclubs and amusement arcades.

About the partnership

Citizencard is a government backed proof of age scheme.  It was launched in 1999 and since then over 200,000 cards have been issued. The scheme is aimed at young people aged between 11 and 21.  The card contains a colour photo, the holders name, date of birth and signature.

Redbridge has formed a partnership with citizencard to promote and implement the proof of age scheme.  All pupils between 11 and 18 are eligible for a free card.

The scheme has the backing of the majority of traders in Redbridge and it is seen as a mechanism to help prevent sales of restricted products to under age children.

Improving the health and welfare of the young people of Redbridge is the core aim of the partnership and we are committed to reducing the number of illegal sales in Redbridge.

Citizencard is a non profit company which has supporters originating from the retail and manufacturing sector.

None of the scheme's sponsors have access to the scheme or to any information supplied to Citizencard.  They derive no commercial benefits from their association with Citizencard. The only name attached to any part of Citizencard scheme is "Citizencard®" which is a registered trademark.

Other cardholder benefits:

  • Access to e-wallet and Youth Access Panel
  • Discount voucher booklet containing £200 worth of nationally available discounts
  • Limited number of free phone calls and access to free voice mail
