The labelling of food is generally governed by the Food
Labelling Regulations 1996 (as well as some others to a small
extent). The labelling regulations require the majority of foods to
be labelled with:-
- Name of the food
- Ingredients
- "Best Before" or "Use By date"
- Storage conditions
- Name and address
- Instructions for use
The regulations make it an automatic offence to sell or expose
for sale any food beyond its "Use By" date.
