FAQ for Making representations - advice for interested parties | Contact for Making representations - advice for interested parties

The Licensing Act 2003 enables rigorous examination of applications by the Responsible Authorities, local residents and businesses. Responsible Authorities are notified of every application for a new premises licence, variation or review of an existing licence.

All parties have the opportunity to make representations (for, or against) to the licensing authority. Representations must be about the effect of the application on the licensing objectives. If you are a local resident or business (interested party) in the vicinity of the premises, you can also have a say about a licence application that affects you. You can also apply for a review of a premises licence at any time.

If you make a valid representation a Licensing Committee hearing will take place. You will be invited and given the opportunity to support your representation and question the applicant. The Licensing Committee will hear all parties and then determine the application (i.e. decide whether to grant, refuse or limit the licence). You will be informed of the outcome.

The advice about making representations applies to both premises licences and club premises certificates. If you need any help or further advice about anything on these pages please contact us by telephone or email.
